Remembrance Day Ride November 2007
We gathered at the BP Servo at Morayfield waiting to see who would turn up, only to be pleasantly surprise by the number of members and the variety of bikes participating. We even had Shrek and Leanne in their Ford. Shrek told us the sad story that his Yamaha Venture had been written off after his recent accident but he did not want to miss out on the club ride. Pinkie & I were surprised to see JB & Goldie for the day ride. They had come down from Torbanlea for this event.
There was certainly a variety of machines on display for this ride.
After some discussion regarding various bikes and other interesting conversational topics we were off and running. We joined the Bruce Highway as far as the Caboolture turnoff. Then we headed for Woodford. After Woodford we joined the Kilcoy Peachester Road but turned off after about 7 kilometres and headed up the Bellthorpe ranges. This is a very interesting road with turns which turn back on themselves usually 2nd gear. The road is narrow and has a week day restriction in the mornings. Certainly well worth taking the time to ride this road and come into Maleny the back way. We will do this ride again next year but with a few more variations probably having lunch at Kenilworth then follow the Obi Obi Road.
Look Mum no damage except my pride, a little bit of dirt and grass here and there but nothing damaged.
Here we are lined up, well most of us anyway. We held a minutes silence for Remembrance Day in the park. We moved onto the Mapleton Tavern. We finally got there after other members told me where it was I was actually leading them to. Luckily I was never an officer or we would still be out there trying to find our destination.
The views from the Mapleton Tavern
Remembrance Day was observed by the locals in the Memorial Park next door to the Tavern.
Some of the crew, gathering in the car park before entering the Tavern to order and partake of lunch. We were joined by Wazza & Diane at Maleny for the ride to Mapleton and for the lunch time get together.
We soon took over the outside area for ourselves, seems as if they knew we were coming.
Slinger who seems to have some sought of affliction with his right hand does not seem to be able to close his hand up properly. But anyway it did not stop him from devouring his lunch of fish and chips.
Laszlo and Eva joined us at the Tavern for lunch and the remainder of the ride. Also in the picture are Rick and his son (back to the camera) and Pinkie. It seems that Laszlo was so keen to do the ride that he and Eva did the ride on Saturday, in mistake for Sunday which he did with us as well. Keen Fella.
From the Tavern we made our way to the Big Pineapple as Shrek had stated in his ride that we would partake of an ice cream. Along the way several members dropped off and made their way home.
Here we are, the final group at the Big Pineapple. Mind you we were in for a big surprise. Imagine we have member who had his statue in the main area, there large as ‘still’ life Slinger. They even got the badges on his vest right. The detail was amazing. But unfortunately when I finally caught up with Slinger management had removed his statue so he was not able to see himself. But I did get this photo for you. Finally it was time for the ice creams. Yes folks, Shrek did eat it on his own and he enjoyed it.
